Introducing Myself

Hi my name is Alison

On January 1st 2008 our baby son James was born 6 1/2 weeks premature. I knew that i was going to have a premature baby, and i accepted this in my head. However nothing prepared me for the reality of a tiny baby smaller than my hand fighting daily for life attached to many cords, pipes and monitors.

My husband and i spent almost 24 hours a day 7 days a week watching our little man, jumping every time the monitors beeped. We were in the NICU/Special Care Baby Unit of the Hospital for 18 Days which felt like 18 years.

During our stay we discovered some premature essentials that we could use to ensure the safety of James once he came home, some of these were really simple like premature pacifiers to keep him breathing (if they are sucking they are alive), motion and sound crib monitor, and premature clothing designed to help regulate body temperature. In addition a good breast pump to help with additional feeds was essential.

Over the course of the year we have had our ups and downs healthwise and we want to share this journey with you.

Until next time

Regards

Alison
